At the heart of the conservative stance is often a belief in traditional values and a binary view of sex and gender. Many conservatives believe that sex is determined at birth by biological factors and is immutable. This viewpoint often leads to skepticism towards the concept of gender identity as distinct from biological sex.

Concerns about fairness in sports are also prominent.26 Conservatives often argue that transgender women possess a physiological advantage over cisgender women, thus undermining fair competition in women's sports. This leads to calls for policies that restrict transgender girls' and women's participation in sports.

The term "gender ideology" is frequently used in conservative discourse to describe transgender rights and related concepts. This framing often portrays transgender activism as a radical agenda being imposed on society, threatening traditional values and the natural family.

Conservative organizations like the Heritage Foundation and the Family Research Council play a key role in shaping these perspectives and advocating for policies that reflect them. These organizations often provide research, model legislation, and mobilize their constituents around these issues.

It's important to note that while these are common themes, the conservative movement is not monolithic, and there are varying viewpoints on these issues. However, the concerns outlined above represent the major arguments driving much of the conservative opposition to transgender rights in the United States. This opposition has manifested in numerous legislative actions and policy changes at both the state and federal levels, aiming to restrict the rights and lives of transgender individuals.
