So, I read the 26-page paper on the service academies and the six-page biblio of sources (some of which can be pretty slanted). Really, this whole Chicken Little/Much Ado/Wringing of Hands/Wailing and Gnashing of Teeth over the current state of the academies us just that. These are micro items that we happen to have knowledge of. I speak from experience: The academies and their output will continue. I'd be more worried about the prevalence of cheating among midshipmen and cadets. Does anyone recall Jim Webb's 1979 Washingtonian article, "Women Can't Fight?" He and I'd say a plurality of grads believed the admission of women was the death knell of these respected institutions. Speakers? Library books? C'mon. They may be of…
